Blood, gore, jump scares and supernatural spooks are just a few things that can help a horror movie get someone shaking in their seat. Director Wes Craven, however, believed there are other surprising elements that help a scary movie’s success.
“Everyone says, ‘How many gallons of blood do you need for a horror film?’ I never find it’s that,” the late Craven told Bloody Disgusting in 2015. “Yes, you can have a scene that’s very violent but I find that if you have something that gets under the skin of the audience in other ways and that usually has to do with the more human side of it.”
