With less than two weeks to go before Election Day, Beyoncé appeared in Houston on Friday, October 25, to endorse Kamala Harris, and was joined by her former Destiny’s Child bandmate Kelly Rowland.

The “16 Carriages” singer, 43, was introduced by her mother, Tina Knowles, and appeared with Rowland, 43 at the star-studded rally in her Texas hometown, which also included Willie Nelson. (The Washington Post was first to report Beyoncé’s expected appearance on Wednesday.)

“I’m not here as a celebrity,” Beyoncé addressed the crowd. “I’m not here as a politician. I’m here as a mother, a mother who cares deeply about the world our children and all our children live in, a world where we have the freedom to control our bodies, a world where we are not divided, our past or present or future.”

“We’re all part of something much bigger. We must vote and we need you,” she added.

The Houston rally came one night after a star-studded Atlanta event where Bruce Springsteen, Tyler Perry and Spike Lee showed support.

While Friday marks the first time the Grammy winner has officially endorsed Harris, the Beyhive has long suspected Beyoncé supported Harris after “Freedom” was used repeatedly at events for the democratic presidential candidate. CNN reported in July that Beyoncé gave Harris permission to use the song, a track from her 2016 Lemonade album featuring Kendrick Lamar, while campaigning.

Later that month, Harris revealed her favorite song is not “Freedom” but “Break My Soul,” a track from Renaissance.

“I just love that song,” Harris told People. “I play it all the time. I think it’s one of the anthems for women…when [Beyoncé says] ‘you,’ you could be life, you could be a person, you could be a situation. You will not break my soul. I can endure.”

Harris has even seen Queen Bey perform live. Financial disclosure reports released in May revealed that Beyoncé gifted the vice president tickets to her blockbuster Renaissance World Tour, which were valued at $1,655.92, per NBC News.

While the star waited until October to officially endorse Harris, Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles, shared her presidential pick via Instagram immediately after the VP was announced as the new nominee in July. She has since hosted fundraisers and shared many social media posts in support of Harris.

In 2020, Beyoncé endorsed President Joe Biden and Harris while wearing a face mask featuring the campaign logo with a Fendi ensemble and an “I voted” sticker.
