Billy Baldwin and Chynna Phillips won’t ‘hold on’ to their Santa Barbara mansion

A little more than three years ago, actor Billy Baldwin and his longtime wife Chynna Phillips purchased a $2.9 million home in Santa Barbara’s Mission Canyon neighbourhood.

Phillips, the lead singer of the Wilson Phillips trio, later expressed her gratitude for becoming a homeowner in a YouTube video.

After a financial crisis in 2018, she and Baldwin, known for his roles in Flatliners and Backdraft, had to restart their lives, spending over a decade moving between leased properties.

Fast forward to today, the couple has listed their Craftsman-style property for nearly US$3.9 million after a year on the rental market, where it was once priced at $18,000 per month, according to the Robb Report.

Sheela Hunt of Village Properties is the listing agent.

Located at the end of a shared driveway near Rocky Nook Park and the Santa Barbara Mission, the private residence is surrounded by park-like grounds with mature oaks, gardens, and pathways.

Built in the late 1940s and extensively remodelled by Baldwin and Phillips, the half-acre property includes a main house and a separate guesthouse, offering a total of five bedrooms and four bathrooms across approximately 278sq m.

The primary residence features neutral interiors with wide-plank oak floors, vaulted ceilings, skylights, and numerous windows.

Highlights include a living room with a wood-burning fireplace, French doors leading to a covered terrace for al fresco dining, and a dining room with built-in shelving and a wine-storage nook.

The kitchen boasts quartz countertops, a farmhouse sink, an eat-in island, high-end stainless appliances, and a walk-in pantry.

One of the three ensuite bedrooms has been converted into a den/office with patio access, while the primary suite includes a window seat, balcony, walk-in closet, and a bathroom with dual vanities, a freestanding soaking tub, and a rainfall shower.

The outdoor space features a pergola with a fire pit, a small sauna-equipped ‘she shed,’ and a two-bedroom guesthouse attached to a two-car garage, complete with its own living area, kitchen, and bathroom.
