Chris Martin fell through a trap door while performing with Coldplay in Australia.

In video footage captured by fans who attended the band’s Melbourne, Australia, show on Sunday, November 3, Martin, 47, was seen walking backwards on a stage at Marvel Stadium when he accidentally stumbled through an opened trap door.

Various videos captured the moment, which involved the musician, dressed in a blue shirt and trousers, walking backwards as he began reading fan signs he could spy within the audience.

Once Martin’s foot reached the open panel, his entire body was seen hurtling towards the underground area before a member of the stage team managed to catch Martin, preventing him from risking a serious injury. Martin’s arms also reached out to the ground, which helped to break his fall.

“That’s, uh, not planned, thank you for catching me,” Martin told the staff member into his mic before he quickly regained his composure and climbed a short staircase back to the stage. “Thank you, guys, holy s—t.”

The lead singer then made light of the moment, telling fans that it will “probably be a YouTube moment.”

Coldplay’s southern hemisphere tour is set to continue despite the almost-set back, with concerts scheduled in Sydney before the band depart the country to embark on several shows in New Zealand.

Martin’s fall comes after Olivia Rodrigo experienced a tumble through a trap door herself last month while performing in the same Australian city.

Rodrigo, 21, had been running across the stage at Rod Laver Arena on October 14 when she fell backwards and down through a trap door. While Martin remained in sight during his incident, Rodrigo disappeared completely, returning to the stage to let her fans know she was good to continue performing. “Oh my God, that was fun! I’m OK,” she yelled to the crowd at the time. “Sometimes there’s just a hole in the stage. That’s alright!”

Aside from the onstage accident, Coldplay’s touring schedule has delivered significant success in recent months. The band, which features Martin, Guy Berryman, Phil Harvey, Will Champion and Jonny Buckland, extended their residency at London’s Wembley Stadium to 10 concerts in September, in a move that will surpass Taylor Swift’s current record.
