Butting heads with your boss? Trying to decide whether to push for a promotion to the C suite? Struggling to figure out what really matters to you in your career?
These are all real challenges that many of us face in our careers, but we don’t always have a place to turn for answers.
Executive coach Muriel Wilkins is back for another season of Coaching Real Leaders to tackle these leadership hurdles and more on the podcast that takes you behind the scenes of real life executive coaching conversations. Muriel helps leaders discover unexpected insights about themselves and actionable steps they can take to move forward.
Listen to the new season of Coaching Real Leaders starting October 7th.
MURIEL WILKINS: Sometimes in your career you reach a crossroads and you need help deciding which direction to go.
SPEAKER 2: I guess I feel quite certain in my mind that it’s time to make a change, and most of my career has just positioned me for what I guess is objectively speaking kind of a traditionally big job – a C-level executive at a public company-type role. And now that I find myself kind of at the precipice of that next logical step, I feel pretty uncertain.
MURIEL WILKINS: Other times the career path you’re on leads right into a brick wall and you’re unsure how to get through it.
SPEAKER 3: I was required to be a certain person in some of those situations with this dynamic around me and my boss not necessarily having a good relationship, but I should have put that aspect aside and still showed up. And the fact that I didn’t show up made me reflect and think, Well, why is it that you’re acting different in this situation? It kind of felt like The Wizard of Oz, and I’m the Lion who’s chasing courage or trying to understand where his courage is.
MURIEL WILKINS: No matter what obstacles you’re facing in your career as a leader, coaching can help, and that’s where I come in. I’m leadership coach Muriel Wilkins, and the new season of my podcast Coaching Real Leaders starts October 7th. We’ll look at all kinds of leadership issues – from feeling like you’ve hit a plateau, to navigating a new office culture, to balancing a dual-career household. And we’ll reach some breakthroughs as well, which I hope will help you in your own career.
SPEAKER 4: The key takeaway for me is to go back and reevaluate where I’m at professionally now, where I want to be professionally. The word that keeps bubbling up as I am hearing your feedback and thinking about what you’re saying is, I reject any ceilings that should be above me. And this feels like a ceiling, and I need to crack through that through realigning my professional goals with who I want to be.
