Johnny Depp‘s 22-year-old son, Jack, has been working as a bartender in Paris instead of following in his father’s acting footsteps.
The owner of Lebanese restaurant L’Area in Paris spoke to the Daily Mail on Saturday, December 7, about Jack’s gigs as a bartender and in the establishment’s downstairs kitchen.
“Jack is a great guy. He keeps out of the limelight, but worked here behind the bar and in the kitchen,” Edouard Chueke told the outlet.
Jack quietly worked at the restaurant for two years before recently leaving. “He was a good employee, he left a few months ago, but I expect him back later next year,” Chueke said. “Good staff are hard to find.”
Chueke noted that Jack’s mother, Vanessa Paradis, and sister Lily-Rose Depp were “regulars” during his time working at the restaurant, adding, “Lily was mixing caipirinhas behind the bar and really getting into the swing of it, she was enjoying herself.”
Depp, 61, and Paradis, 51, welcomed Lily-Rose, 25, and Jack during their 14-year relationship. The former couple met in 1998 when Depp was filming The Ninth Gate. Depp and Paradis never tied the knot.
“I never found myself needing that piece of paper. Marriage is really from soul to soul, heart to heart. You don’t need somebody to say, ‘OK, you’re married,’” Depp told Extra in 2010 before their split. “If Vanessa wanted to get hitched, why not. But the thing is, I’d be so scared of ruining her last name! She’s got such a good last name.”
Paradis, for her part, previously opened up about her and Depp’s decision to raise their kids near her hometown in France.
“For my children, I secretly choose France. Even though Los Angeles is great, too,” she explained to Belgium’s Weekend Knack magazine in 2007. “Only, in the south of France, you can live much more anonymously. And that’s a bliss, especially when the children are still young.”
While Lily-Rose has pursued a career in acting and modeling, Jack has preferred to stay out of the spotlight.
“Aside from school plays and things, he hasn’t shown any desire to become an actor,” Depp told The Philippine Daily Inquirer in 2014.
Lily-Rose offered some rare insight into her bond with Jack earlier this month, calling her younger brother “the coolest person ever” while speaking with Natalie Portman for Interview magazine about her role in Nosferatu.
“This one in particular was big for me, because my brother and I both were super obsessed with Dracula when we were younger. My brother used to dress up like Dracula when he was a kid for school,” she recalled. “I was like, ‘Wow, if I get this part my brother’s going to finally think I’m cool.’”
She continued: “It’s the classic thing of when you have a younger sibling, they think you’re so cool when you’re kids, and then when you get older, now I think he’s so cool, and I’m like, ‘Let’s hang!’ And he’s like, ‘I’m busy.’ But yeah, I think I got some points with this one.”
