Welcome to Playing Through’s daily ritual — Golf Talk Today.
Each day, the crew will discuss various elements of the PGA Tour, LPGA, LIV Golf, and more.
The qualifiers for both Team USA and the International teams are official. Sunday marked the last day to earn one of those qualifying spots as the BMW Championship ended.
The Presidents Cup is Sept. 24-29 at the Royal Montreal Golf Club in Quebec, Canada.
Jim Furyk is Team USA’s captain, while Mike Weir is at the helm of the International Team.
Team USA is 12-1-1 all-time in the biennial event.
Let’s take a look at the official qualifiers for each team.
Six qualifiers for Team USA at Presidents Cup
1. Scottie Scheffler
2. Xander Schauffele
3. Collin Morikawa
4. Wyndham Clark
5. Patrick Cantlay
6. Sahith Theegala
Team USA has some of the biggest names in golf on its squad. However, the best part is that Sahith Theegala earned one of the qualifying spots to make his debut at the Presidents Cup. He is such a great addition to that roster, and it will be exciting to see who Furyk pairs him with.
The six qualifiers for the International Team at the Presidents Cup
1. Hideki Matsuyama
2. Sungjae Im
3. Adam Scott
4. Tom Kim
5. Jason Day
6. Byeong Hun An
While Team USA has a lot of talent, so does the International Team. Hideki Matsuyama won the first FedEx Cup playoff event before he had to withdraw at the BMW Championship. Hopefully, he will remain healthy enough to compete at the Presidents Cup.
Adam Scott finished runner-up at the BMW Championship, and Sungjae Im recorded another Top 15.
Seeing how Mike Weir adds to this roster to compliment this talented group will be fun.
Now, it is in the captains’ hands. They will have a week to decide who gets one of their six picks. Those selections will go live on Tuesday, Sept. 3, a couple of days after the season finale FedEx Cup.
Will Team USA continue its win streak, or is it time for the International Team to end the drought?
