The Baltimore Ravens had one last chance to force overtime against the Kansas City Chiefs on the last play of regulation in the 2024 NFL season opener. Lamar Jackson had driven the Ravens down the field from the 13-yard line, and now had the ball at Chiefs’ 10-yard line. Jackson had just missed open receivers in the end zone on the previous two throws, but he had one final trick up his sleeve.
On the final play of the game, Jackson escaped the pocket, found daylight, and zipped a pass to tight end Isaiah Likely in the back of the end zone. It looked like the potential game-tying touchdown, and was called as such on the field. When the refs reviewed the play, they ruled Likely’s toes were out of bounds. The Chiefs beat the Ravens, 27-20.

Here’s another look at how close the Ravens were to scoring the potential game-tying touchdown.
It was this close.
Jackson was electric all night, but he’s going to regret two missed opportunities for touchdowns on the final drive. First, Jackson overthrew Likely in the corner of the end zone. Then, Jackson missed a wide open Zay Flowers in the middle of the end zone.
Jackson finished with 273 yards passing, one touchdown, and no interceptions. He also ran for 122 yards on 16 carries.
Somehow, the Chiefs find a way to get it done. If the Chiefs become the first NFL team to ever three-peat, we’ll remember their journey started with a win by a single inch.
