Aaron Rai is finally a PGA Tour winner, taking home his maiden victory at the Wyndham Championship. He won by two shots over Max Greyserman at Sedgeville Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.
Rai signed for a bogey-free final round 6-under 64 to post an 18-under overall score. He sank a six-footer for birdie on the 18th to make it official.
The Englishman made four birdies in a row on holes 3-6 to turn in 31 strokes. Rai had to grind on the back nine but added two more birdies on the par-3 12th and par-4 18th to finish the job.
After 88 starts, he got over the hump and can call himself a PGA Tour winner.
“It feels amazing; it truly is a dream come true,” Rai said after his win on Sunday. “There’s a huge team behind me here, and I wouldn’t be here without all of them. Yeah, just extremely happy and grateful to be here and surrounded by great people as well.”
Rai has one runner-up finish in 2024, with 5 top 10s and 10 top 25s. He was T2 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, T4 at the Genesis Scottish Open and T7 at the John Deere Classic.
Since his T19 at the U.S. Open, Rai seems to have found something in his game, and it all came together at the right moment.
The Wyndham Championship Payout
The Wyndham Championship purse is $7.9 million, a $300,000 increase from last year.
Rai made $1,422,000 for his victory and earned 500 FedEx Cup points, skyrocketing him to No. 25 in the standings.
Greyserman did not close like he wanted to, but it was another runner-up finish for him and a cool $861,100 for solo second.
The amateur phenom, Luke Clanton, finished solo fifth but did not earn any money.
